Logic, not luck
No randomness and no surprises: the world is deterministic, so what you record is exactly what happens. You can solve every level in your head before you try it.
Logic game · Puzzle platformer
Afterself is a puzzle platformer for people who think before they jump. Every few seconds time rewinds and your echo repeats exactly what you did: the puzzle is working out who does what, and in which order. No ads, no luck, nothing to install.

Why it's a logic game
No randomness and no surprises: the world is deterministic, so what you record is exactly what happens. You can solve every level in your head before you try it.
Each echo repeats one loop. The puzzle is deciding which job to record first, which one to leave for later and which one only you can do in the present.
16 mechanics, introduced one at a time: plates that need several bodies, lasers only your echoes can block, solid echoes you can climb on and paradoxes.
Retry a loop without spending another one, or undo your last echo. Experimenting is part of the puzzle, and one mistake doesn't cost you the whole level.
Step by step
Level 1-1 “First Echo” sums it up: a door that only stays open while someone stands on its plate. You can't hold the plate and walk through the door at the same time… without help.
From there the puzzles grow: three or four echoes in the right order, plates that need several bodies at once and doors that only open for your past.

Loops last 7 to 10 seconds and chapter I levels take just a few minutes, so a puzzle fits into any break. Later chapters ask for more thinking, with shorter loops and less room for error.

Questions
Both. You run and jump like in a platformer, but every level is a logic puzzle: you get a few short loops and have to plan what each echo will do. Jumping matters; the hard part is the thinking.
No. Neither the free browser demo nor the game shows ads, and you don't need an account: the online leaderboard only asks for a nickname.
It starts gently: chapter I teaches the basics with short puzzles, and it's free in your browser. Then loops get shorter (10 down to 7 seconds) and every chapter adds new rules, up to puzzles with several echoes and paradoxes.
Yes: chapter I is free in the browser on your phone or computer, with nothing to install and no sign-up. The full game is in development for Android, iOS, PC and web browser.
